Former National Football League player Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to address an attempted murder allegation stemming from a gunfire that took place in May, as his attorney submitting a not guilty response on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his relocation to Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the NFL, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brownâs counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an communication that he has already filed a written not guilty response to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami court as early as Wednesday morning for a bond hearing, Eiglarsh added.
As per his arrest order, Brown is charged of seizing a handgun from a security employee after a star boxing event in May and shooting a couple of rounds at a person he had confronted with previously. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed authorities that one shot grazed his nape.
Eiglarsh stated that Brown was only safeguarding himself from Nantambu.
âThe steps he was compelled to take were solely in defense against the claimed individualâs aggressive actions. Brown was attacked that time and responded within his legal entitlement to safeguard himself,â Eiglarsh said.
Brown was not right away arrested because originally authorities did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It only subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a full statement about the event to authorities and named Brown as the shooter, the affidavit states.
From his digital posts, Brown had been living in Dubai for several weeks. In a post after the altercation, Brown said he was protecting himself because he was âattacked by several persons who attempted to take my jewelry and bring personal damage to me.â
A second-degree attempted murder charge in the state of Florida bears a maximum 15-year prison term and up to a $10,000 fine in the case of a conviction.
Brown has faced numerous legal problems over the time. He before had been accused of battery of a truck operator, multiple abuse charges, neglect to pay child support and additional occurrences.
In a 2021 season match with the Buccaneers against the New York Jets, Brown took off his shirt, shoulder pads and gloves and ran off the field, leading to his release by the franchise and effectively halting his professional tenure.
